Poems: Smileback to poem listing
Darkness coming from the cracks
they left today, grey turns to black.
The project that they did today
will more than likely fade away.
They know not what they did to me
but soon enough I hope they'll see.
My eyes close now before I weep
and softly slip I into sleep.
I wake with colors gleaming bright
from through my window, morning sunlight.
Today will be a better day
as I will show myself the way.
I get up right, I brush my teeth
and then my family do I greet.
I grab my bag and shoes from the floor
and put them on, I'm out the door.
I drive to where I want to go,
to lift my sprirts, today I know.
My eyes are open when I spot
on the side of the road, a lady, stopped.
I slow right down to help her out
and once I'm stopped I hear a shout.
"Thank you sir but I'm OK,
I'm just not having a great day."
I smile and nod and start to leave
when I see her smile back at me.
Her child, who is in the car,
smiles back, I see from afar.
"Oh this is a much better day.
This smile better not go away."
And for that day, the smile stayed
and through it, my day was great.
It helped me up so I forgot
the day before, and so I stopped
fretting and regretting all that was done.
And that was how my day was won.
