Poems: Rodents

back to poem listing

Going to sleep my face hits the bed
No thoughts are existant in my sleeping head
for quite a while, but then suddenly,
I barge in on a meeting of squirrels and bunnies.

I try not to eavesdrop, I try not to notice
but hearing them ponder my mind starts to focus.
They're talking 'bout kidnapping someone name Pete
who is apparently is in debt up above his knees.

They come up with a plan, they're going to trick
him into picking up a large rotting stick.
And tied to the other end of the wood is
a string that leads straight into the forest.

Now Pete is one of those curious folk
who has to explore, prod, feel and poke.
So knowing that Pete will follow the string
they add more to the trick: so interesting!

When Pete finally enters the woods he'll find
a basket of mushrooms, the non-poisoned kind.
Of course he'll want to sample a few
when from out of nowhere comes a small kangaroo!

The 'roo won't stop at him he'll keep hopping by.
But Pete will certainly be wondering why.
So Pete will then follow the marsupial to
a place far in the woods, out of view.

At this new found place there will be a small horse
this horse is named Wilbur Von Schlaffen of course.
This horse will then offer to give Pete a ride
which Pete will deny 'cause Pete's scared of heights.

The horse will then get slightly teed off and
bite Pete in the shoulder causing Pete to skoff.
In the skoffing process a bug will then fly
into Pete's open mouth, making him think "Why?

Oh why did I ever borrow all that cash?"
At that point all the rodents jump out and attack
and take from him the money they're due.
The plan is all finished, though quite mean and shrewd.

After a while they have it set up.
The stick, string, basket, bug and kangaroo pup.
The horse is waiting to offer his ride
when Pete sees the stick, and keeps walking idly by.

The plan was just ruined! He didn't take the bait!
"No way!" Said the rodents. "No longer can we wait!"
So right then they all jump out and beat Pete in the field.
"Woah!" I wake up. "That dream was WEIRD!"
