Poems: Drown him

back to poem listing

A man took a walk, into town, to the bar
Knowing quite well he couldn't use his car
If he had, he knew so, he might be thrown in jail
for his actions and the man knew he couldn't make bail.

So this man was a-walkin' down to town, to the bar
when he heard a little cry over there, from afar.
He ran to the sound but ne'er did he find
what was making that darned noise, but he didn't mind.

Well on this little trek he got himself quite lost.
His feet were getting colder, his eyes grew glossed.
In the dead of winter wind will chill you to the bone.
And though he knew he heard that voice he was very alone.

The man thought for a bit and came to a conclusion,
amidst all this chaos he'd shone some light on this confusion.
He found the footprints that he made! Wow! "I'm not dead!
I guess that little voice was all up in my head."

Well this man started walking, back to town, to the bar
when this voice again was shouting "Hey! I know who you are!
You're that guy that walks alone, into town every night."
To hisself, he replied: "Well you know? That voice's right!"

So to counter to the voice this man yelled back: "Who are you?"
The voice again replied: "Well me, I'm Jim McGrew!"
"Hey that's my name!" said the man as he shouted with some fright.
"And I'm your poor conscience, you just drown me every night!"

Then this man started walking, back to town, to the bar,
back to drown that little voice that he had heard from afar.
All the while mumbling: "I'm crazy in the head!
I really hate that voice, give me a beer, drown him instead!"
